Choosing bottles and teats

Glass bottles are easy to clean and do not hold smells; silicone and PP bottles are lighter and less likely to break when travelling. Check the teat flow on the pack and match it to your baby's age. Wash and sterilise bottles, teats and cups before first use and after each feed, and replace teats that look cracked, sticky or swollen.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I replace bottle teats?

Check teats before every feed and replace them as soon as you see wear, or every few months as a guide. Follow the advice on the pack.

Glass or plastic bottle?

Both work. Glass suits home use and is easy to clean; silicone and PP are lighter and better for outings. Many parents keep both.

When can my baby start using a training cup?

Many babies try a soft-spout cup from around 6 months. Check the age on each cup and ask your health visitor or paediatrician if you are unsure.
